Awards and other selected recognitions

Randy Dahlgren
Dr. Randy Dahlgren received the 2008 Distinguished Teaching Award for Undergraduate Teaching by the Davis Division of the Academic Senate. “This award is one of the most prestigious granted on the UC Davis campus and recognizes consistent outstanding teaching and commitment to student success.” Among Randy’s mentorship and dedication to teaching, he received this award for the development and teaching of the Science and Society course ‘Crisis in the Environment’, that attracts hundreds of students every year, exploring contemporary environmental issues: Causes, Effects and Solutions.
Dr. Larry Schwankl, with Dr. Blaine Hanson and Dr. Terry Prichard, received the 2009 Education Aids Blue Ribbon Award by the American Society of Agriculture and Biological Engineering (ASABE). They were awarded this prestigious honor, because of their excellence in extension activities through application of innovative and successful outreach methods. The award will be received and recognized during the ASABE annual international meeting in Reno, NV, on June 22, in 2009 by the LAWR research team.

Rick Snyder
Representing the California Irrigation Management Information System (CIMIS), and in recognition of personal contributions to CIMIS, Dr. Rick Snyder received the 2009 Irrigation Person of the Year Award, by the California Irrigation Institute. As the oldest continuous irrigation forum, the California Irrigation Institute highlights critical issues and new technology for irrigation management and annually honors outstanding lifetime achievement. This award recognizes the combined research efforts by Dr. Rick Snyder and other LAWR members together with researchers in the Department of Water Resources (DWR), providing a network of key weather data for California, and sets the world-wide standard for state-supplied irrigation weather data.
Christina R. Connell received the 2009-2010 Herbert Kraft Fellowship in Hydrologic Sciences. This fellowship is awarded in recognition of her outstanding academic record and promise of productive scholarship. Christina is working towards a graduate degree in Hydrologic Sciences, with Dr. Jay Lund being her major professor. She graduated with high honors from UC Davis with a B.S. in Hydrology. Among other awards, she received the 2007 Charles Hess Community Service Award in the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences.

Christel Cantlin, Professor Jan Hopmans, Dianne Louie and Michael Mata received the University of California Davis “2009 Disability Awareness Achievement Award” in Special Recognition for Outstanding and Distinguished Service on Efforts aimed at the Recruitment and Retention of Employees with Disabilities.
